The McDermott lab specializes in solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (SSNMR). Specifically, we develop methods for studying the dynamics of proteins in the solid or semi-solid phase using classical relaxation approaches as well as hyper-polarization techniques. We also apply SSNMR to study the mechanisms of various biological systems such as proteins that form oligomers and liposome-embedded ions channels.
